★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Amazing place to try Unami dishes in a touristy location. Highly recommend the unagi wrapped in egg - you can taste each delicate layer! A little pricey, but worth the peace and quiet in a very busy area.
Advanced reservation is a must, but doesn’t hurt to try your luck and ask at the door. We did, and got in!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ From outside it looks like a posh private place with its serious looking doorman, however, we were greeted by a warm team of wait staff. Starting with the doorman, he spoke excellent English and wasted no time to ensure we were well taken off even though we were walk ins. We tried the unagi bowl, unagi wrapped with egg and the carp sashimi. All were great choices. They had English speaking staff that were very warm and cheerful. It was a nice dinner with the family.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Remember to book online in advance as the restaurant serves reservations only since 2019. The unagi is very nice. I would recommend ordering a small/medium size of unagi rice plus side dishes to share among your friends to try out different dishes here. This restaurant is a bit pricey nowadays but you should definitely try unagi in this area.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The restaurant had a great ambience but it lacked the wow factor of an eel restaurant. I was not able to see the eel being prepared which is what I like to see in an eel specialty store. Food wise, the eel skewers were good to try once and never again. It is too strong tasting for me and the veins gives it a chewiness which is not for me.
The eel bowls were decently sized, and the eels were flavourful and delicious but not out of this world. If I had to queue for this, I would be disappointed. Overall, worth trying once and it is better then the unagi don chains, but it’s not life changing for me.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Like other reviews have said, definitely make a reservation or get there early. I waited around 2 and a half hours. Don't be fooled by the line outside, theine continues inside too. Now onto the food, it is definitely the most delicious eel I have had in my life, it just dissolves in your mouth as you use your mouth. Only regret is I wish I had gotten thr larger portion size.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Actually queued 3 hours to get in. But I think the wait was well worth it. The queuing is part of the experience I guess. Food is top quality. Portion is adequate. Managed to order the very limited Unagi liver and bones. Service is top notch. Good ambiance. If you drive, there are about a dozen lots out front.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Waited for 1.5 hours to get seated in the restaurant. Turns out it's because they only seat 1 table per group of customer. So even if the table can fit 4 people but if there's only 1 person then he/she will get the whole table by themselves. The unagi meat is soft and seasoned lightly, this is true for all their dishes including the side dishes. Would have given full marks if not for the way they sit the customers.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ (Trip was made back then on 4 Dec 2019, 2 years before the Covid-19 Pandemic hit)
There were a few memorable highlights to our Kansai tripe 2 years ago, and our meal at Unagi Hirokawa was definitely one of them.
We opted for the full course for the complete experience and were very impressed that they used different techniques to present the eel dishes differently, providing a different dining experience with each dish.
The highlight was the grilled eel which was simply amazing. It was tasted extremely fresh, having a soft and delicate texture with a mild sweetness. It was the best eel that we’ve ever tasted so far.
Reservations is a must, otherwise you’re better off finding somewhere else to eat.
