★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I always wanted to try unadon in Kyoto so I went to this place via google map. Seem just be eaten by locals but lately I found out that the restaurant gained Bib Gourmand award by Michelin. The best unagi donburi I ever ate. The unagi was smoky, tender and simply delicious. The sauce was pretty sweet but went very well with the rice. Highly recommended this place.

Saw this place on a Hong Kong TV show and decided to give it a go.
To start off, this is a very traditional place with no non smoking seats. No one was smoking during my stay but it still reeks cigarettes. So please beware.
Food quality:
Given the price (2600 yen for medium) I'd expect less bones in the unagi. I was also under the impression that the omlette would be sweet but it wasn't. So overall a disappointment in my books altho in hind sight the omlette Is probably better off non-sweet since the unagi is sweet already.
Just less gimmicky.. if you find the omlette unagi combo intriguing definitely give it a try but otherwise not worth repesting

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If Unagi-don is your thing , then u need to visit this restaurant , go for the usual Unagi-don or the "Kinshi Don/きんし丼" ! Fluffy eggs topped over the delicious unagi rice , price is kinda over the expensive side but it's worth trying out if you are in Kyoto ! Easy access from Shijo station /Gion Shijo subway

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I first stayed in Kyoto directly opposite Kyogoku Kane-yo some 9 years ago wondering what this ancient blackened looking shopfront across the road was selling - I was mesmerized and was determined to get in. Unfortunately they didn't open that time, but many years later I'm back looking for an unagi fix and here I am. Other places around Kyoto will give you the royal treatment with una-don in a lacquered box - it is expensive, a luxury, and you'll wonder if the price point is right. Kaneyo is a una-don specialist with 100+ years of history, and except for taking credit cards they haven't changed the way they do business very much, ending up comparatively more affordable than the fancy ones closer to Gion. Delicious dishes too: umaki - baby eel in a blanket of omelette, grilled eel wrapped around burdock root, unagi kimoyaki - eel liver skewer (super delicious! Possibly better than the actual eel), unakinshi - an eel topped with bowl retopped with a blanket of omelette. They feel like a cosy family rather than professional staff, I love this place.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is a cosy place ran by a family. It was less touristic than I was expecting and we did not had trouble finding an empty table. The food was really good and the eel did not disappoint. I totally recommend this place if you want a little bit of quite from all those turists while enjoying really good authentic Japanese food.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Supposedly decades old (some say centuries) recipe for Unagi. I personally had tasted better Unagi don elsewhere. The portion is large and come in a supersized omelet on top.
Ground floor is smoking floor and that whole floor is a serious ‘chimney’. Upstairs is tatami style and non-smoking. Less crowded too. Many tourists come here, so the wait staff all speak English.
Not cheap. Not that great.

Can’t able to take the dinner set but regular dishes.
Tasteful & would come again next time to try the lunch or dinner set.
