Traditional Japanese Cuisine and it definitely gives that atmosphere of one as well. The chazuke set was amazing especially if you love sashimi. They also offer a grilled mackerel if sashimi is not your preference.

Visited during the start of the Sakura blossom seadon. Have to wait for over an hour. Ordered their signature set (鯛魚3食)。 Food was delicious (but won't call it exceptiona by any meanl) and service was good.. Maybe it's better to visit during the off season to avoid the long queue.

Had the set meal, a grilled fish with pickled vegetables that were not the usual items we get in Malaysia. Relaxing ambience, but we did have lunch at 3pm. Very modern toilet.

Long story short, if you happen to pass by and there’s no long queue and it fancies you, go right ahead. Compared to its famously known bream fish sashimi with 3 ways to eat which is almost flavorless(the side dish on the other hand is too salty.), the miso-based grill fish is wayyyy better to my taste. The atmosphere there is very nice I’ll give it that. Good thing it’s not too expensive but it’s just not worth spending more than half an hour in queue for this.

Easily one of the better meals i have had around this area. Went at 1100hrs before lunch crowd and there wasn’t a queue. What got me interested in this place was the long queue by locals (non foreign tourists) during sakura period. I knew i had to try it someday. There’s basically just 3 meal options to choose from. Our meal for 4 came with extra rice (no additional cost). Their very nice green tea was also complementary.

Taisho Hanana is a restuarant in Arashiyama that specializes in Tai Ochazuke. Tuna has only really been prevalent in Japanese seafood for the last century, for many millenia prior, the Tai (sea bream) was the popular fish of choice. In this ochazuke, you take raw Tai, dip it (in this case with some sesame-ish sauce), put it on your rice, pour tea over your rice and eat the seasoned raw fish with the wet rice and pickles. The Tai here, both raw and grilled saikyo miso style, are superb. As are the assortment of pickles, the matcha, and the warabi mochi desert to finish... as long as you beat the queue, this place is high on the list of things you should try if you happen to be staying in Kyoto and have some time to stop by the western side. And reiterating on that queue - if you're not early or not able to reserve in advance, it can be heaps long and turnover isn't that fast.

Located just in front of the famous bamboo street. Great dishes and atmosphere but very crowded. You may need to wait for 1 hour or more depending on the time. There are more restaurant along side the main street where you don't need to wait, but if you want to try something different and special, try this restaurant.

It was definitely the best meal I had in Kyoto area. We saw the place on the way from the bamboo park to the monkey forest and decided to give it a try. We waited in a long queue for around 45 minutes but it was absolutely worth it. They have different options of set menus and they serve you a complimentary green tea upon ordering. The food was so delicate, delicious and generous. The atmosphere is very peaceful and pleasant.
