Kansai style eel Fluffy and fluffy It ’s good because it ’s rice cooked in a clay pot. It's fun to appreciate the Kiyomizu ware I would like you to have a treat once or twice a year here.

An eel shop near Nishiki Market, a 4- or 5-minute walk from Shijo Station. It's a very popular eel shop around here. I went to lunch at the end of the year. At first glance, I think I can make a reservation at all, but this time I went with the owner of the restaurant, who is on good terms with the owner of the restaurant, and asked the proprietress of Kanae to make a reservation. There are some table seats in a small space inside the shop. If you sit down, you don't have to order, but there is only one menu, so it will come out on your own. Only the one that comes with eel and rice for 7,000 yen. First of all, rice cooked in a clay pot and ground-grilled eel. Probably one eel. There is a solid volume. Also, the rice was delicious. A little smaller grain one. Make an eel bowl by pouring rice into a bowl and putting eel on it. Personally, I prefer to come out as unajū. It's nice to be able to customize the amount of sauce by yourself. Both the sauce and the eel were light and delicious. I thought it would be a little crispy because it was a Kansai-style ground-grilled dish, but it wasn't that crisp and it was a fluffy impression. But it's definitely different from the Kanto style. If you leave a little rice, it will be ochazuke. The name of the restaurant was heavy and the general was very dignified, but it was a good eel for lunch that was not heavy and easy to eat until the end.

Cute cosy restaurant with very welcoming owner. They have only one dish and it's delicious :) Service was beyond excellent. A bit pricey but worth it ! Definitely the perfect place to enjoy the unagi experience.

Must try unagi eel rice. They cook both the eel and rice using a fire place and serve both separately. It’s a unagi experience I have never tried before. Reservations definitely recommended but we managed to get in without one during low season. This place is cash only.

No English menu BUT you don't need one since there's only 1 thing on the menu: eel and rice. Was looking for an unagi restaurant off Google and this popped up. The hosts were kind enough to let us walk in because a table next to us mentioned it was a reservation only place. We were the only non locals. Word of warning, it's not cheap. We kind of went in blind so we ate without knowing the cost. For 2 during lunch, it was about ¥12,000 but well worth it for the experience, service, and good food. Price changes with the market price of eel, though. However, don't come in if you're in a rush since the rice and unagi are cooked fresh per customer and can take a while if there are a lot of people before you. The menu consists of eel with rice, clam soup, and ochazuke (like a rice soup) along with a constant flow of warm tea keep you sated. Simple and effective.

This high quality eel restaurant provides traditional way of eel dishes. They don’t have walk-in order because their eel needs at least 30mins to prepare. A booking is a must. My suggest is to go there one day before or at least two hours before and put your name down on its reservation list. Their seats are limited, but off-peak hour will be a higher chance for a retreat to your taste bud. ?

Super gooddd! I love it when the rice comes in a hot pot. The unagi is super fresh and taste amazing. No fishy smell at all. The old man who serve the meals was also kind & attentive. This place is located near Nishiki market so you can also snacking around before / after meals!
