Very good traditional Japanese restaurant and lovely unagi!!!! I highly recommended make a restoration before go. Price is a little high but food quality is very good!!

Very nice unagi don in a bucket. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great food, but the Michelin rating gave it slightly too much hype.

I had my dinner in this restaurant when I had my trip in Kyoto in Oct 2018 and it was wonderful. You can find great and delicious unadon in this restaurant. The quantity of the sets are quite big and it is definitely worth to have a try. The environment of the restaurant is very traditional. However, the seats are limited and you have to arrive the restaurant early to secure a table.

Recommend getting the unagi tub. Each person gets two pieces of eel so a total of 8 pieces for a tub for 4 people. The eel is not too heavily flavored and has a wooden charcoal taste. The eel bones are soft and can be easily swallowed with rice. One order of tamagoyaki comes in 4 big pieces. Highly recommended.

It got Michelin one Star several year ago. Eel rice plate is so spectacular! Plating is so Japanese style, rice filled of eel's aroma, sweet and soft, so tasty. It's no problem for kids, because they clean out all the fish bones.... Feel so good to have this wonderful meal in Kyoto!

Not sure if they still keep the Michelin star now? Food and service certainly not there? Pretty ordinary on everything specially for that price. Try to go upstairs for seating, we were seated downstairs and it’s quite smoky plus feel like having a 100 yen road side food while you are paying over ¥10,000......

We came at opening, so there was plenty of space without us requiring reservations. Do note that the location is popular, so make the reservation during peak periods. The Unagi don has a clean taste to it, not having the “fresh water” taste, and the grill char is subtly infused into the eel. I understand that this is Japanese eel instead of Chinese eel, thus explaining the higher price than elsewhere. The egg wrapped eel is piping hot, and freshly made. The ginger that accompanies it is fresh, and goes well will the Premium Malts beer. Be polite, and very courteous, and the staff will reciprocate. If you are belligerent, don’t be surprised if the service becomes a little shoddy. I had a great time here, and deeply satisfied with my meal.
