A temple related to Oda Yurakusai and the Hosokawa family. The highlights are the restored National Treasure Tea Room Nyoan (the real thing is in Urakuen, Inuyama City, Aichi Prefecture), the tomb of Takeno Jōo, and the fusuma paintings of former Prime Minister Hosokawa.

It is a tower temple of Kenninji Temple, but it is located outside Kenninji Temple. I visited you at the special exhibition of the winter trip in Kyoto. It is a small temple where you can feel the flow of history, such as the stone pagoda that has returned for the first time in 100 years, the history of the temple, the fusuma painting of former Prime Minister Hosokawa, and the tea room with a calendar.

A very quiet temple, right next to Gion. Since it does not face a large street and the entrance is difficult to understand, there are few people even during the peak season of autumn leaves.
Since it is a place related to the Hosokawa clan of the Higo Kumamoto domain, there is a fusuma painting by former Prime Minister Morihiro Hosokawa.
There is also a graveyard of Oda Yurakusai (the etymology of Yurakucho), which is small but has many attractions.

I visited on November 30, 2009.
It is usually closed and can only be viewed as a special exhibition.
Two dolls were sitting in a small shrine on the right side of the gate.
I went to see the autumn leaves this time.
The stone pagoda of about 6m directly in front of the main hall is a memorial tower for Takeno Jou, a tea master from the Muromachi and Sengoku periods, and has returned to "Shoden-eigen-in" for the first time in about 100 years.
"Shoden-eigen-in" is a combination of two temples, Shoden-in and Eigen-an, which were abolished in the early Meiji era.
It is said that Oda Nobunaga's younger brother, Oda Yurakusai, moved the memorial tower of Takeno Jōo from Sakai to Shodenin around 1620 because he had established Takeno Jōo as a tea ceremony teacher.
After that, due to the abolition of Buddha, the tower was moved to the garden of the mansion of Fujita Denzaburo, who was a heavyweight of the Osaka conglomerate, and was decorated.
The tower was dedicated by the Fujita family and moved to "Shoden-eigen-in" in October 2009.
It was lifted by a crane and a memorial tower was installed.
It was a valuable experience as it was the first special exhibition since the memorial tower returned.

I visited in Kyoto's winter trip 2022.
Although it is the tower of Kenninji Temple, it is located across the street on the north side of the precincts.
It is said to be the family temple of the Higo Hosokawa family, and there are graves for generations in the precincts.
It has its origins in the reconstruction of Oda Yurakusai, and there is a replica of the national treasure tea room, Nyoan (maybe it can be said), which is reminiscent of the past.
In addition, the lotus fusuma paintings drawn by Kyo Sanraku, the founder of Kyo-Kano, and the wooden structures carved before Yurakusai's life are on display.
It's a small temple, but you can relax in a very calm atmosphere.
It seems that the autumn leaves in the garden are beautiful in autumn.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Near Kenninji and Hanamikoji.
Several good drawings on paper sliding doors and a teahouse 'Nyoan' in the garden.
The staff explained about the drawings in each room, which helped to understand about the arts.
