★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Small temple in the middle of bamboo road which is called chikurin . This place is also very crowded. Nice spot to drop by ~
There’s a pretty big pig? cow? sculpture which brings you a luck when you rub it. Actually I forgot what animal is the sculpture. It could be a raccoon. Anyway it brings you a luck. That’s the most important thing to remember. ;) Nothing to lose if you try whether you believe it or not.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Though the precincts as well as shrine buildings are small, Nonomiya Shrine has a lovely little garden to the right of the main hall that is brimming with a lush carpet of moss. A tiny bridge spans the dip between two small “hills” on the ground, making it appear almost as if the garden is a larger landscape represented in miniature.
A small shrine located near the famous temple Tenryū-ji, Nonomiya Shrine is surrounded on all sides by the chikurin, Arashiyama’s beautiful bamboo forest. Despite its small size, the shrine has a lengthy history, founded in antiquity as a purification shrine for imperial princesses appointed as priestesses for Ise Shrine.
Comprised of a small main altar as well as several sub-shrines in a pleasant moss-filled garden, Nonomiya Shrine is a quaint stop along the Sagano walking path that takes visitors through the gorgeous bamboo forest and up into the foothills of Arashiyama.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A small shrine amidst bamboo grooves. You can rent a bike or stroll the path to enjoy the beautiful sight of sunlight shining through the bamboo grove, casting soft shadows on the path. You can also take a rickshaw ride from the young Japanese men and go through the bamboo forest path and around Arashiyama if you want.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It is said to provide blessings for marriage, so that answers my question back then why it looks like a love-themed shrine. However, since the shrine is small, it is very crowded.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It's a great shrine, but full of people. There were school children and tourists and maybe a few regular people who wanted to pray.
Lots of wishes to buy and hang.
I loved the pretty garden the most. Glad it was free.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The bamboo garden is indeed beautiful but you only get to see a small section and it really does not match the pictures you have probably seen. This is because there is a lot of other trees mixed in with the bamboo. To get a more beautiful view you have to pay one of the rickshaw guides to drive you through the private part of the forest. It is a very short route. It is worth a visit but combine it with some of the other sights close by.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A very peaceful place away from the hustle and bustle, a good place to admire the vastness of the bamboo trees - although it's less than what it used to be it's still impressive. Plenty of good photos can be taken here.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ beautiful little shrine. there was a crowd and a line of people wanting to pray there when we walked by on a friday afternoon. there was a nice old man selling postcards of well-known spots in Kyoto just outside the temple gate. we bought 5 postcards for 100 yen each.
