We visited in October 2019. We traveled by train from Kyoto, got off at Arashiyama station. Walked to the Buddhist temple first, visited the garden and the unique bamboo forest. Then, crossed the river, had lunch and then visited the monkey park. It's a 25minutes hike, nice steep climb with views. You can spend about 45min watching the monkeys play around, doing their daily activities. Views from the top are very nice. I remember that you can buy peanuts and feed them. They seem friendly. Well worth visiting overall.

The entrance is a bit tricky to find. From Hankyu Arashiyama Station, go straight and turn left just before the river, follow the street along the river, turn right at the intersection, walk further a bit and there will be a big Arashiyama Monkey Park sign on the left. Tickets cost 550 JPY for adults and 250 JPY for children (4 years old and up). It takes 15-20 minutes by walking from the entrance to the monkey hut at the top. The route isn't steep and relatively easy (our 6 and 3 years old had no problems walking all the way up). The ticket booth sell some souvenirs, umbrella (350 JPY), and raincoat (100 JPY). There are vending machines and some benches at the starting point and other benches on the way up. When you almost reach the top, there is a playground and an air-conditioned resting place. Just a bit up further, you will finally see the macaque on their pretty green hills. The view is great, staff is so friendly (they asked if we would like to see the macaque during feeding time), the macaque are pretty cool (not aggressive). There's a hut where you could buy cold drinks for yourself and some peanut/apples for the macaque. Even though the place isn't big but it's a great place to spend 1-2 hours away from the bustling downtown Arashiyama.

Good for kods you can see wild monkeys and can feed them by 100Yen. However you have to climb mountain about 30 min to arrive close to monkeys. If you plan to go consider 1-2hours from entrance to return.

Forest filled with wild monkeys. It is a decent, steep uphill, but definitely worth it. 550 yen per adult and you can feed the monkeys. The view at the top was nice as well.

This is the most fun you can have in Kyoto. It's a long climb but feeding the cute monkeys is worth it. ?

?????️?☁️. The monkeys are friendly and fun. Breathtaking vista of Kyoto. Be aware of the hike and wear good shoes. It is taxing during more humid times of the year.

To reach the top you need to walk or “hike” around 20-40 minutes depending on your fitness level. Wear comfortable shoes and get to the top to see the monkeys. You can feed the monkeys from the cabin, purchase the food for 100 yen, entrance ticket is 550 yen. Don’t forget to read and follow the rules (don’t stare at them, don’t get too close and don’t crouch), I’ve seen several tourist didn’t follow the rules and it could provoke the monkeys.
