Stopped in to have a coffee on the terrace. The lovely staff explained that usually to sit on the terrace you had to purchase food but since it wasn't busy we could sit at the back. Coffee was very nice and the staff were all very sweet and helpful. The table in front ordered the charcuterie board and it looked so good! Just note that if you do want the views it's recommended to order food (you get better seats) and there is a 250 yen cover charge. Overall a lovely experience

Stopped by to have a cup of soft drink and take a rest from the heat outside. It was my first time coming here and the staff were friendly and nice, very good impression. There’re two floors, got AC on the 2nd floor, no AC on the 1st floor but they got electrical fans and a nice view from the terrace. They have staff who can speak English and staff who speak Japanese so no communication problems to be worried about. Would love to come by another time.

You come here for the view of the Kamogawa. The place is quaint and very charming. We arrived and there was one waiting staff who greeted us, seated is (fronting the river), took our orders, served our food and took our payment. We wanted to just get drinks but decided to have a margerita pizza to got with some white wine. The pizza was forgettable but this is a nice place to just kill time and stare blankly into the river.

Kawa Café was really amazing. I don’t understand how you can rate this place with less than 5 stars. The location is unique with an astonishing view over the Kamo river and the service was polite, fast and friendly. The food was also delicious - we had the Teriyaki Bowl, a pizza and some desserts (lemon pie and green tea roll). All in all Kawa Café is an insider tip which is absolutely worth visiting and I‘d love to visit this place again!

Kawa’s Cafe (Kamo River): This is a cute little cafe that looks out over the river. We went there for brunch and had their set menu of quiche and the croque monsieur. You might even get to meet Kawa the cat! They are open from 10 am to midnight so another late night option (but not sure what the dinner/late night food options are).

Went there as a group of 3, no reservation needed in the afternoon (Wednesday). Staff was very friendly and helpful. Inside, there's a lovely view on the nearby river. The cafe features over 100 little pictures of Kyoto's past and present, which creates a cozy and interesting atmosphere. Food wise, the Kawa cafe offers a nice variety to choose from. Classic Japanese dishes like Curry-rice or Teriyaki Rice Bowls as well as Pizza and Quiche are served. I had one of pizzas and was pleasantly surprised. The slice of lime cake that I had after tasted incredibly good. All in all, I recommend the Kawa Cafe for both a short snack or a longer visit to enjoy the beautiful scenery.

I never leave a review but please DO NOT SPEND MONEY HERE. Was made to read a list of rules on how to behave when we sat down, regretfully I didn’t take a picture of it, but found it a bit insulting, even more so when the next party seated after us were not given the same treatment. ¥1900 for two very mediocre hot drinks (my milk coffee had sugar in which I hadn’t asked for) and pancakes, one of which had a hair in it. Didn’t kick up a fuss though as the owner had already publicly shouted at two members of staff while we’d been there. Didn’t want to get anyone else who seemed to be doing their jobs (miraculously with a smile) into trouble and with such terrible atmosphere, we just wanted to get the hell out of there. How they have any staff left let alone customers boggles me. Wish we hadn’t parted with our money here, please learn from our mistake. 0 stars.

The food was just ok (I got the クロックサーモン set). It was just a really cheesy grilled cheese and a tart. The tart tasted a bit like the inside of a fridge though. Also, they serve everything on these really small wood slats, which is trendy, but my salad was immediately on the table when it was delivered. Up to here, a three star place. The service, however, doesn’t help. For one, if you want to sit along the river, go in a pair. I was alone, and there was only one other group in the 2 story restaurant, but I was not allowed to sit in the river seats because “they are tables for 2–popular with pairs and couples”. This was when there was nobody else in the restaurant on a Wednesday morning. One might assume I wanted to sit by the river when I went to the “river cafe”. So anyway, I sat in the middle of an empty restaurant (at a table for 2, btw). The staff were apathetic at best, probably a result of the owner. A French guy, who snapped his fingers at customers to direct them and seemed angry when anyone asked questions or for alcohol (I’m not an alcoholic, I swear, I heard others ask for alcohol at 11 am as well) (they don’t serve alcohol until the afternoon). Ultimately, between the service and food, the potentially nice atmosphere is ruined. Not worth a trip.
