★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My favorite restaurant in Kyoto. Been here several times and have always gotten the course dinners. Never the same meal, always exciting, plenty of food, and absolutely delicious. Every dish combined vegetables with meat or fish so well!
Reservations highly recommended.
No English menu so do what we do and just get the course to save yourself the trouble.
Check out their other farm to table restaurants as well. They're all different and delicious in their own way.

Onikai is one of 5 restaurants that is currently being run by their group and this one focuses on "oden" style but with a modern twist. Even their cocktails are made from a combination of vegetables.

They didn’t have an English menu during our visit and all the better for it. We had a fun night of trying different dishes getting recommendations from the staff and chef. This was a great spot for a fun dinner as a couple. The team at Onikai made us feel welcome. We Highly recommend them. Go and see for yourself. You will be happy. We certainly were

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ An absolute sensory overload. The staff here are more than welcoming. They summon the orders across the restaurant in the cutest most polite way only the Japanese could manage yet in such a fun manner. The atmosphere is like grandma's elegant open plan mansion kitchen with a Boxing Day hang over. The food was nothing short of delicious. Each dish has its own unique flavour & the set menu was more than enough to fill my overstretched belly. The prices are ridiculously cheap. A must visit when in Kyoto.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The best izakaya place I have visited so far. The foods are mainly vegetables and some meats. However, the food qualities are just undescribable. The taste is good. The foods are also appealing. Their services are very and warm, for example greetings until you totally leave the place. The menu I recommend is this potato cheese. The price is expensivr but it is worth it
