Statues of Kyoto Hotel founder Matayoshi Maeda and Hirobumi Ito Matayoshi Maeda, the founder of Kyoto Hotel, was born in Osaka in the late 1820s. After various businesses, in 1873, we focused on the appearance of a mineral spring in Suwayama, Kobe, and opened the hot spring restaurant "Tokiwa Hanada". In addition, Yoshio was widely associated with dignitaries in the political and business world as a local celebrity, and seems to have had a close relationship with Hirobumi Ito, who was the first governor of Hyogo prefecture in the early Meiji era. "Tokiwa Flowerbed" seems to have prospered as a famous restaurant in Kobe. With that surplus, in 1888, the inn "Kyoto Tokiwa" was opened in the land of Nijobashi Nishizumejoru in Kyoto, and this is the year when the Kyoto Hotel was founded. Often in 1889, the entire railway between Tokyo and Kobe started running at night. Public opinion about wanting a full-fledged large hotel to accept a large number of people was raised, and the site of a business establishment owned by Kyoto Prefecture was nominated as a candidate. The Choshu clan Kyoyashiki was burnt down during the turmoil of the Bakumatsu Ishin, and was left as a vacant lot after that. The business establishment was closed after the construction of the business establishment was completed and a certain role was completed after more than 10 years. It seems that there were several competitors in the sale of the business floor, but in the end, Matayoshi bought it, and in 1890, the Kyoto Hotel (Tokiwa Hotel) was built and started operations. However, Matayoshi became a man who never returned in 1893, three years after the hotel opened. In memory of Yoshio's virtues, the business people in Kobe, who had a close relationship with him during his lifetime, solicited donations from Hirobumi Ito and other political and business leaders at the time, and built a statue and a statue monument. The monument is engraved with the direct text of Hirofumi. Unfortunately, the bronze statue does not exist because it was offered during World War II, but it was rebuilt in commemoration of the 130th anniversary of the founding of the Kyoto Hotel based on the remaining photographs at that time.
