K	Kenichiro Harashima on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 積み重ねられた写真の束、落書きだらけのテーブル、いつから貼られてるのかわからないポスター、全部Kaiさんの軌跡でできたアートだった。まさに唯一無二の場所。ステキなお店です。 A stack of photos, a table full of graffiti, a poster that doesn't know when it's been past, and everything was made of Kai's trail. This is a unique place. This is a wonderful shop.
み	みやこうさぎ on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ おそらくこの店がどんなお店か知っている人だけが訪れる特別なお店だと思います。かつて寺町今出川にあった「ほんやら洞」の雰囲気そのままです。もっとディープといえるかもしれません。 60年～70年代の学生運動が盛んに行われた時代の大学生文化と表現したらいいのでしょうか。あまりきれいとは言い難い店内に、レコードや大量の本が乱雑につまれています。お店に入った瞬間に独特の古い臭いが鼻につきます。こちらのお店は火事でなくなった「ほんやら洞」のご主人が経営しているバーです。そうした時代を生き抜き、今もなお元気に活躍される方々が集うお店です。文化的背景を理解したうえで我こそはと思う人が訪れると素敵な時間を過ごせるかもしれません。 I think this is a special shop that only people who know what kind of shop visits. It is the same as the atmosphere of "Honnara Cave" which was once in the Teramachi Imade River. It may be said that it is deeper. Should I describe it as the university student culture of the era in which the student movement in the 60's and 70's was popular? Records and lots of books are cluttered in the shop, which is hard to say. At the moment you enter the shop, a unique old smell will come in your nose. This shop is a bar that is run by the owner of "Honnara Cave" which is not a fire. It is a shop where people who survive through such times and are still active are gathered. It may be a wonderful time for people who come to understand the cultural background after visiting them.

t	toshimitsu asaoka on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ KYOTO GRAPHIE 2020に伺ったときに、甲斐さんの存在を知り鴨川デルタの写真の展示をみて感動しました。その後、京都駅の美女100人もみたあと実際に夜こちらの八文字屋さんに伺いました。甲斐さんがいらっしゃっていろんなお話や写真集を見させていただきました。お会いできてよかったよかったです。雑多な店内、写真に囲まれたあの空間とっても大好きです。京都がたくさん詰まったお店です。本当に行ってよかった。また必ず行きます。甲斐さんは、とても優しく気さくな方でした。だから素敵な写真を撮れるんですね。 When I visited KYOTO GRAPHIE 2020, I found out about Mr. Kai and was impressed by the exhibition of photographs of the Kamogawa Delta. After that, after seeing 100 beautiful women at Kyoto Station, I actually visited this Hachimonjiya at night. Mr. Kai came and saw various stories and photo books. I'm glad to meet you. I love the miscellaneous interior and the space surrounded by photos. It's a shop full of Kyoto. I'm really glad I went. I will definitely go again. Kai was a very kind and friendly person. That's why you can take nice pictures.

a	ari salomon on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ AUTHENTIC local dive bar. it's not clean but it's friendly! come chat with the proprietor (good english) about his decades of Kyoto street photography and view his stacks of books and postcards from his many exhibitions. some books are in english also and you can learn a lot about Kyoto everyday life from reading them. Have a drink.

The owner, Kay, is a symbol of protest art and famous street photographer. Warm. They have good down-to-earth alcoholic drinks and tones and tones of books and vynil discs spread across the small cosy place. It is in the 3rd floor, under the Blues Bar. Use the lift. Hard to find but worth the search if you like real bohemian style.
