★ ★ ★ ★ ★ While Kaseiki cuisine isn't my favourite type of Japanese cuisine, I was pleasantly surprised by many of the dishes and loved the private dining service. We had a lovely traditional private room and were attended by an amazing young woman who was very helpful and incredibly polite.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The service we had were horrible, they didn't even introduce any dishes to us . The 女中 even try to steal one dish from us. Without asking us and told us this is the last dish. Hopefully we can understand some Japanese and found out they skip the final course. The 女中 said "I thought you guys are full". This is the first time I had this experience in Japan very disappointing dinning experience. They DO NOT DESERVE any Michelin stars. In my opinion the food was just ok, nothing stand out. I have been too places taste and service way way better than this restaurant. Bottom line definitely will NOT return, and WON'T RECOMMEND to anyone.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It is commonly known that decent Japanese restaurants are reluctantly to receive underage guests, because even adult foreigners may not know Japanese etiquette very well and bring disturbance to other guests. I cannot count how many fine restaurants I missed because of a child attached.
But not in Maruyama. Their service is extremely well that they can take care of child and at the same time keep things in good order. Very very patient and great attention to details
As with food, here you can expect top tier kaiseki standard, what is surprising is that their child menu is very nice too.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ There are two locations, so make sure you arrive at the correct restaurant for your reservation.
Everything was made with the highest level of care and exquisite technique. Each course was beautifully served. We loved the bamboo sake serving pitcher! That being said, this was not my favorite kaiseki experience. The counter seating area is a bit sterile and lacks in atmosphere. My spouse and I ate at the counter and it was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Perhaps sitting in the private room with a larger group and this would be a better experience.
The English of the staff is quite good, but not quite good enough to provide good details on what each course entailed. I think our lack of Japanese language skills probably made the experience a bit lack luster. Because they have two Michelin stars, I was hoping for more.
