★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Though I love Japanese pop culture, my absolute favorite experience from my 3.5 week of Honshu was the Gion Odori show in early November (2019). If you have a chance to catch this production, it is a must see. Fascinating! Also, as shown in attached photo, it is well worth to upgrade to the box seats.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ What a wonderful old theatre. So much character. Lucky enough to see Gion Odori. It is only performed twice a year. If you are in Japan when it is on, make the effort to go and see, regardless of your interest in dance.
