★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The hotel is opposite the train station but can be a bit tricky to find. The hotel entrance is right beside its restaurant but there is no sign in English.
We booked a room with private bath and it was amazing. Definitely will stay here again next time we go to Yuzawa.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I chose this hotel because it’s the nearest to the train station. It’s just across the station. Didn’t expect to receive fantastic service from the staffs who speak good English! Their service started right when you enter the hotel. It’s definitely a 5 star service. Food quality is great too! Our Hibiki room is just nice for family of four. A unique room with ambience.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ One of my favorite onsen, located in the Nigata prefecture, the Hatago Isen is very close walk from the JR Echigo Yuzawa Shinkansen Station, about 80 minutes away from Tokyo. They have 6 rooms with private onsen, two western-style, and four Japanese-style. We have stayed at both, and while the western-style is a little larger, they are both very spacious. They also have very nice shared bath, separated for men and women, and a private bath that can be reserved. Baths are open between 2:00pm and 10:00pm. They water is very, very hot, and they warn you to add cold water before getting in.
The hotel restaurant takes reservations for dinner, but unlike onsen, is not automatically included with the price of the room. This makes the room quite a bit cheaper if you don’t want dinner. We have done both, and I highly recommend trying the restaurant. The dinner is $80, $100 or $120, depending on which course you choose. We tried the middle, “premium” dinner, and was thoroughly stuffed with excellently prepared and tasty food. We opted to come early and talk with the main chef about the ingredients and were offered tastes of the food, as well as a lesson on the local mountain vegetables. It is worth the 15 minutes to talk with him, if you understand Japanese.
Breakfast is included, and is also quite tasty. They even made us some rice balls from leftover salmon and rice from our breakfast, the first time we stayed there, and offered the same this time after dinner.
I recommend the miso manju, which they serve with tea while checking you in. You can also purchase these in the gift shop. They also have rice and other goods in the gift shop, and a coffee and tea shop with good looking cake. We didn’t eat the cake, but wanted to.
