Incredibly friendly owner / sushi chef who is almost unbelievably polite and welcoming (even upon exiting back onto the street!). Nice small space, with a shoeless section closest to the sushi bar. Easy to miss from outside because of the drapes over the windows. Definitely eat here if you're near Toji Temple!

The rice was cold as well as the seafood, making the meat very rubbery to chew. The highlight of our dining experience was the attitute of the server who was extremely rude. It took us a while to pay since we were counting our money (sorry for this as we used our coins to pay) and the owner shooed us like animals. I love my Japanese friends in general who are very polite and friendly. Maybe the server was having a bad day? Anyway, hope you treat all your clients with respect, may they be locals or foreigners.

I was rather skeptical until food was presented because of how unassuming the whole place seemed. "Will the food be fresh?" I thought... The cuts of the fish were so thick, I couldn't believe it. Sweet, fresh and tasty. Reasonably priced too! He served us two types of tea at different times of the meal, macha kit Kats for dessert and soup. Such a satisfying meal and delightful owner. Hidden gem, shall we say.

They were not expensive at all for the quality of food you get. Owner was such a warm person and would go above and beyond to make your dining experience a delightful one. Definitely coming back here again when we are in Kyoto next time.
