★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My wife and I went here after reading the reviews. Overall, the place is fabulous! We’ve been in Japan for almost a week and this is the best meal we have had. The sushi was superb and the service friendly and timely (no English). The prices were amazing—dinner for 2 + sake was $62! The only circumstances under which I wouldn’t strongly recommend—if you care about ambiance and/or cigarette smoke really bothers you. Little care has been out into the aesthetic and some customers were smoking as it’s not prohibited at the restaurant.
But please go-really great!!!!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Though maybe not the best sushi in japan, the price and quality is quite good. We had omakase (11 pieces) and 12 other pieces of sushi a la cart with a bottle of Kyoto sake and our total was around 6000 JPY. That’s pretty good. The scallops are really fresh and sweet! Uni was quite good for japan (can’t beat Santa Barbara uni straight from the fishing boats though) each sushi is about 150-450 JPY which is totally reasonable. Lots of local salaryman sitting in the restaurant (smoking is allowed) as well as many foreign tourists too. Friendly and helpful service with easy English menu. Would recommend someone who wants good sushi without splurging!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Sushi was good, but I’ve tasted sushi like this in Canada as well for the same or better prices. Based on the reviews and rating, I thought it would be amazing, but it was okay. I wouldn’t come back, but dinner was good. Also, smoking is allowed inside, so don’t be surprised if someone starts smoking beside you!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Everything tasted great, service was good, price was decent and they have English menu. Likely need to reserve a spot though as it's a small place. The salmon and fatty tuna were standouts.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fantastic family run place where the prices are extremely reasonable and the taste is incredible. Staff very courteous and there is an English menu. We had around 40 pieces (shared between two) and we were full and all for a price of ¥6,048 !! Note we came on a Monday for dinner so not sure if prices are different on weekends. Highly recommend and off the beaten track from touristy central Kyoto. 5 stars!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ First, get a reservation. If you don’t speak Japanese use the hotel concierge or enlist a friend who does. You might be ok just showing up at 5pm but don’t be surprised if they turn you away- while we were there they turned away multiple people including several Japanese. It’s a small place with no room to wait and the sushi is amazing. And when I say amazing I mean really effing good- probably the best sushi you ever had for less than $200 per person- and at a reasonable price. We paid ~$100 (~10500 yen) for two people with two 300 ml bottles of sake. A good place in the US is more than that in my experience. And this place blows almost all of them out of the water. But don’t go thinking they have California roll or whatever crazy salmon and eel thing with spicy mayo you normally get. They have real, traditional sushi done really well using top quality fish.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ What a wonderful place! Small, family-run sushi restaurant. Great service. Solid servings, with the perfect cut and texture. Consistently fresh ingredients. This has to be some of the best sushi we’ve eaten (context of two weeks in Japan and years of sushi-chasing in Canada).
*update 2021: still among the best sushi we’ve ever had :)
