戊辰戦争弔魂碑(ぼしんせんそうちょうこんひ)は、戊辰戦争(慶応4年／明治元年(1868)〜明治2年(1869))における仙台藩士及び旧幕臣・米沢藩の仙台応援隊士らを含む殉難者(じゅんなんしゃ)1,260名及び民間で犠牲となった多くの方の霊を弔うために、伊達家(14代当主伊達宗基)と旧仙台藩士が出資し、明治10年(1877年)に鋳鉄製で建立されました。弔魂碑正面の台座には、「この戊辰戦争で仙台藩のために戦死した一千人余の当地士民の霊魂を慰める為に、伊達宗基旧藩知事により政宗公の御廟(ごびょう)のそばに本碑を建てた」と記載されています。「戊辰戦争(ぼしんせんそう)」とは、慶応4年(1868)年1月、京都郊外の鳥羽・伏見で始まった、旧幕府軍と新政府軍との戦いで、鳥羽・伏見戦争から上野戦争、そして北越戦争・東北戦争、さらに翌明治2年5月に終わる箱館(函館)戦争までの約1年4ヵ月に及ぶ一連の戦争の総称です。 ※箱館(函館)戦争は、新選組鬼の副長土方歳三(ひじかたとしぞう)が函館五稜郭近くで戦死した(馬上?にて被弾した)戦争として有名です。仙台藩は、奥羽(おうう)及び北越諸藩の計30余藩による「奥羽越列藩同盟」の結成の中心的な役割を果たし、旧幕府軍側として戦いました⚔️

The Boshin War condolence monument is the Sendai support of the Sendai clan and the former shogunate, the Yonezawa clan, during the Boshin War (4th year of Keio / 1868 to 1869). The Date clan (14th owner Date Munemoto) and the former Sendai clan invested in the Meiji era to mourn the spirits of 1,260 martyrs, including soldiers, and many who were victims of the private sector. It was erected in 10 (1877) with cast iron. On the pedestal in front of the condolence monument, "To comfort the souls of more than 1,000 local warriors who died for the Sendai domain in this Boshin War, the former governor of Date Munemoto was the mausoleum of Masamune. The main monument was built near the temple. " The "Boshin War" is a battle between the former Shogunate army and the new government army that began in January 1868 in Toba-Fushimi, a suburb of Kyoto, from the Toba-Fushimi War. It is a general term for a series of wars that last for about one year and four months, including the Battle of Ueno, the Battle of Hokuetsu, the Battle of Toba, and the Battle of Hakodate, which ends in May 1902. * The Battle of Hakodate is famous as the war in which Toshizo Hijikata, the deputy chief of the Shinsengumi demon, died near Hakodate Goryokaku (hit on horseback ?). The Sendai clan played a central role in the formation of the "Ouetsu clan alliance" by a total of 30 clan of Ou and Hokuetsu clan, and fought as the former shogunate army side ⚔️
