There isn't much here in the way of historical things outside of the museum etc, but just the site itself and knowing what was here and who built it was so great to be here. Love the statue and the views from this area are just fantastic too.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is a must for history buffs of the Japanese feudal era. This is the statue of Masamune "Dokugan-Ryu" Date, the famous feudal lord sorting atop his horse. On addition, the statue is located adjacent to the pretty and scenic site of the former Sendai/Aoba Castle located on a hill that overlooks the City of Sendai. On the day we visited, there was a gentleman in full gear of a samurai warrior who demonstrated some sword fighting techniques and answered questions regarding a samurai's life during feudal times.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The must visit place in Sendai, you can observe the view of Sendai city from above and there also a shrine nearby the monument. You can take a loop bus to get here, but the bus is really small and crowded, it’s might take sometime to get here and get out.
