★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 陽徳院は、慶安2年（1649）、伊達政宗の正室愛姫の菩提寺として、伊達忠宗が瑞巌寺の住職雲居を招き開山しました。陽徳院霊屋、廟名「寶華殿」（ほうげでん）は、愛姫を祀る霊廟で、万治3年（1660）の建立です。
Yotokuin opened in 1649 as a bodhi-ji temple of Date Masamune's Masamitsu Aihime, with the instructor of Zuigan-ji Temple. Yotokuin Lingya, the name of the temple “Hokaden”, is a mausoleum dedicated to Aihime and was built in 1660 (1660).

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Yotokuin Temple is a very old and beautiful building. The Zen Buddhist monks that care for Zuiganji and Entsuin reside here. Buddhist prayer services are performed here and can be viewed be tourists from a designated distance. It has a shrine, large kitchen, living accomodations, and a zen meditation room that doubles as adjacent lodging when all the rooms are full.
Entry is prohibited without permission from the monks.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Yotokuin is not a temple that is open to the public (so I've never been and didn't know how many stars to give.) It is used for training Buddhist monks. The pictures here are actually of Hougeden, a mausoleum for Date Masamune's deceased wife. It was on view until April 2016 but is also closed to the public now.
