★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Visit in autumn to see the "Light Up" event; all of the gardens are illuminated at night and the autumn colour leaves look absolutely stunning. It's a magical and romantic way to spend an evening, definitely good for a date!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The best place to visit when you are in Matsushima. Especially, light up events during autumn season is awesome. Collaboration with light up, yellow and red leaves and music is super good. Must be the best memory in Sendai!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful place to visit while in Matsushima. Take a relaxing stroll through the grounds and enjoy local snacks (as well as one of their many soft cream flavors).
In autumn, there was an illumination event. But staff constantly reminded people to ‘not stop walking’. It’s understandable because of the high traffic. Most people ignored them so they could take dozens of pictures. But I felt pressure to move along faster, so it was hard to really enjoy this paid event.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A beautiful temple garden, containing the shrine and mausoleum for Date Masamune, founder of Sendai. We went in late November, when the colors were incredible. There was an rose garden that was mostly dormant, but must look wonderful in the spring. A great place to spend an hour or so.
The grounds are not huge, but worth the short detour. Admission was very reasonable at 300.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I've been in more than 40 temples and gardens in Japan and this is by far the one with the most beautiful garden. Maybe because I came here in a rainy day and this made all this place got a dark and beautiful atmosphere. Is small, the fee is just 300¥ but a must-go temple if you are around.

This temple was built in 1647, to house the mausoleum of Mitsumune Date, who died at the age of 19. He was a grandson of Masamune Date, first feudal lord of Sendai area. This temple is famous for its Japanese style moss garden and full of roses, also in fall, the temple is covered with colored leaves.
You can make your own praying beads in this temple. Choosing your favorite power stones with your intuition, decide your design by yourself. Your original praying beads will bring good fortune to you.
