★ ★ ★ ★ ★ しだくら橋の近くに解説があります。それによると、太古から寛保２年や明治40年の大水害によって押し出された巨岩怪岩が重なりあい、渓谷を形成したそうです。奥多摩むかし道の上から川を眺めると、翡翠のような色をした多摩川の流れがとてもきれいです。この渓谷がどこから始まってどこまで続いているのか、明確な説明はありません。ですが、もっと下流の鳩ノ巣渓谷や御岳渓谷につながる、奥多摩の川の両岸に岩がごろごろしていて、まさに渓谷美といえる景観を作り上げています。長瀞と違って川まで降りる道は無さそうです。

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 411号線から気を抜くと通り過ぎてしまう脇道に入ります。車のすれ違いができない細い道の途中にあります。帰りはUターンして元きた道を帰りますが411号線に出る時がとても危険。皆さん気をつけて

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 車で細い道を河沿いに進めるのだが狭いので対向車、歩行者に注意しましょう。奥多摩の手前の特に店もなく華やかさは微塵も無い自然の山の雰囲気を残した秘境のような渓谷は写真、森林浴ハイキングとして穴場のスポットだろう。
駐車場やお店があまり無く観光地化されて無い。がそれが穴場スポットたる所以で有る。
Drive along a narrow road along the river, but be careful of oncoming vehicles and pedestrians as it is narrow. In front of Okutama, there are no shops, and the gorgeousness is not dusty. The unexplored valley that leaves the atmosphere of a natural mountain is a hidden spot for photography and forest bathing hiking.
There are not many parking lots and shops, so it is not a tourist destination. That is why it is a little-known spot.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 惣岳渓谷にはしだくら吊橋という吊り橋がかかっている。「この橋を渡るとき際、五人以上で渡らないでください」という看板が恐ろしい。
橋の中央まで行ってみると、目下に広がる惣岳（そうがく）渓谷の眺めはなかなかのものだった。
2020年9月に青梅線奥多摩駅前から奥多摩湖までの約10kmの旧青梅街道『奥多摩むかし道』の全行程をじてんしゃで走ってみました。
「奥多摩むかし道」は、旧青梅街道と呼ばれていた道で、氷川から小河内に達するまでの道です。この街道は、小菅から大菩薩峠を越えて甲府に至る甲州裏街道で、甲州街道より8kmほど近道であったそうです。

In September 2020, I ran the entire route of the old Ome Kaido "Okutama Mukashi Road", which is about 10km from Okutama Station on the Ome Line to Lake Okutama.
The "Okutama Mukashi Road" is a road that was formerly known as the Ome Kaido, and is the road from Hikawa to Ogawachi. This highway is the Koshu back highway from Kosuge to Kofu over the Obosatsu Pass, and it is said that it was a shortcut of about 8km from the Koshu highway.
