Nobunaga Oda liked the view of the garden, took over the residence of the Nijo family of the public house, ordered Sadakatsu Murai (Kyoto Shoshidai) to renovate it, and Nobunaga Oda built the castle as an inn while staying in Kyoto. It is also called "Nijoshin Gosho" because it was later presented to Prince Masahito. In "Honnoji Incident", Nobutada (Nobunaga's son) siege this Nijo old castle. Nobutada moved to this castle from the adjacent Myokaku Temple, but it burned with Myokaku Temple. There are no remains, only a stone monument is built.

Murasaki Shikibu's "The Tale of Genji" Nijoin walk The location of Nijo-in, where Genji lives, is in "Sakaki", where Lady Rokujo and his daughter, Saio, are drawn down to Ise. It is written that after Lady Rokujo and his daughter, Saio, have finished greetings inside and out, the more they break the main road of Higashinotoin from Nijo, the more they will be in front of Nijo. It is depicted that Genji, who did not attend the inner ritual, passed in front of Nijoin, where he lived. It can be seen that Nijo-in is located along Higashinotoin-dori, south of Nijo-dori. The photo shows Nijoden on the map of Heian Castle in the Heian period and the corresponding Google Map. In the olden days, the Houses of Nobles lined up around here, and it can be seen that there was a mansion of Ariwara no Narihira near Nijoden. There was also Ashikaga Takauji's residence during the Muromachi period. If you go south from Nijoden on Higashinotoin Dori, you will find the Rokkakudo.

There are three places called Nijo Castle. One was built by Oda as the government of Yoshiaki Ashikaga, which is said to be the former Nijo Castle, and the second is the one used by Nitta Nobunaga Oda in his Kyoto residence, which is the Nijo Old Castle. Is the current Nijo Castle made by Tokugawa. Former Nijo Castle was the site of the residence of Ryoki Nijo, the royal family, and in 1569 Nobunaga expanded to 350 meters square, creating a double carving and a triple castle tower. Made in 70 days with 15,000 to 25,000 personnel each day. According to Christian missionaries Lewis and Flois, he wrote that the stone buddha and the Olympic pagoda were used because of the lack of stone. In addition, we dismantle Motokuni-ji Temple of Hokke Sohon and use wood furniture. After the expulsion of Yoshiaki in 1573, Prince Higashimiya Seiji was entered and was said to be Nijo Imperial Palace. It was dismantled in 1576 after the Muromachi Shogunate was dismantled, and some of its wood is used for Azuchi Castle II. Some stone walls are visible during the construction of the subway Karasuma Line. It is still preserved underground, but some have been restored to the southwest corner of Kyoto Gyoen next to it and another to the west side of the current Nijo Castle. Get off at Marutamachi Station on the Karasuma Line. There is a stone monument at the northern corner of Kyoto Heian Jogakuin Junior High School, High School and University. Marutamachi Nijo Kojo is the home of Oda Nobunaga. It is also called Nijo-den. At first, there was Nijo Ryoki's home, which he furnished and used for Nobunaga's home in Kyoto. In 1579, the old Nijo Castle was demolished, and it is now housed by Prince Seiji. At the time of Honnoji Temple in 1582, Nobunaga's eldest son Nobutada was at Myogaku-ji Temple, but he learned about the change and went to nearby Nijo Kojo to go to help his father Nobunaga. Get off at Oike Station on the Karasuma Front and turn west on Oike Street. Turn right and the monument stands at the back of the Kyoto International Manga Museum.

Nijoden was the residence of Yoshimoto Nijo (1320-88), who served as the Minister of Government during the Nanbokucho period and is famous for waka renga, and was also called Oshikojiden.
