Excellent set options with a variety of ramen to choose from as well as pork and rice bowls. It’s a small shop with a few booths and counter seating. If there’s a line outside, it moves quickly. English menu available, no credit cards.
M	Michael Jamieson on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Stumbled upon this place almost by accident! After a quick but weary journey via the bullet train from Tokyo, a walk up the street proved very fruitful. After a peek through the shop front window of kenkyujo there were a good number of locals chowing down on ramen, In my humble book this was a positive sign. This ramen was like no other, tastier and flavourful beyond any comprehension after a long day of travel. The menu had something for all ramen lovers with delicious sides for the taking. Fast friendly service proved also a handy bonus, in which the whole package deserved 5 stars from me and the group as a collective. If in doubt duck in for one of the tastiest ramen sets in Kyoto.

Most of the guest are local people but you can feel the staffs treat everyone with passion. You might want to give them a try if the ramen route in kyoto station is overpacked. Is just 10 minutes walking distance from the station.

You can choose from three broth flavours: soy sauce and pork, Japanese miso, and simple pork broth. I'll definitely be going back before I leave Kyoto. A good mix of very strong flavours!

Staff was friendly and spoke enough English to make the experience smooth and they also had an English menu which is always a plus! Just right down the road from Kyoto station and big enough to fit a group of 4 at a table or typical bar seating for individuals. They have a set menu which is a great value and you can choose/customize your set order. My husband got a big bowl of ramen with the specialty pork, an order of gyoza, and a medium bowl of rice for only ¥1350. Very affordable. Broth was delicious and they do not skimp on the green onions. Definitely get the special roast pork as it is tender and delicious. 100% worth the walk to find it instead of just settling for an overcrowded train station restaurant. Must check it out if you're craving a good cheap bowl of authentic ramen while in Kyoto!
