The remains of a temple that is said to have been built by Fujiwara Motohira, the third generation wife of Oshu Fujiwara. The site of the precincts is designated as a National Historic Site (World Heritage). After being destroyed by the war, it was devastated into paddy fields. The garden, which is also a national scenic spot, has a high cultural value as one of the few remains of the Heian period. Compared to the garden of Motsuji Temple, which is adjacent to the road across the road, it seems simple, but it has a different taste and resonates with the hearts of the viewers.

It is next to Motsuji Temple. It constitutes a corner of Motsuji Temple and is a World Heritage Site. The pond is large together with Muryokoin and Motsuji Temple.

The ruins of a large temple with a Pure Land garden on the east side of Motsuji Temple. Built by the wife of Fujiwara no Motohira, the second generation. It is maintained as a historic park, and you can witness the state of the pond at that time. Some cornerstones remain in the park. In addition, the remains of a vast car inn (ox cart storage, now called parking lot) have been excavated between Motsuji Temple on the west side, and you can imagine the prosperity of those days.

The park next to Motsuji Temple. It is a calm park that secretly constitutes a World Heritage Site and a special historic site, but is not popular.

This is a place that seems to be on the same site next to Motsuji Temple. Motsuji Temple is charged, but this is free. It's like a square or a park without anything. However, it is also a place where you can feel the eternal time when you spend your time. On holidays, it is a perfect space for families to play in the open space and couples to stroll by the pond. There is a small park next to it and there is a parking lot where 2 or 3 cars can be parked, so you can use it for a short time.

I visited in September 2020 on a trip around the World Heritage Sites. I visited without any prior knowledge, but it was very interesting and I had a good time. Not only is it reminiscent of the gorgeousness of Hiraizumi culture that flourished in the distant past, but you can also feel the calm time that flows in the late summer of the Tohoku region, and experience the facts and reasons why the great culture has taken root in this area. I think so. I thought again that Japan is a good country to have such a place open for free. It was a little disappointing that there were some information boards that were left uncleaned, but I personally think that I had more fun than visiting Chusonji. It is one of the places I would like to visit again if I have the opportunity.

I came here early in the morning before Motsuji's opening hours. It's quiet, calming and peaceful. Saw a couple of cranes and felt lucky.
