国学者ですが江戸から明治に変わるきっかけを作った人と言ってもいいと思います。
江戸時代に日本という国を見直して天皇陛下の在り方を教えた人でもあります。
後の国学者に多大な影響を与えた人で万葉集の解読に尽力を尽くした人としても知られています。
言葉(漢字から平仮名に)の事を知るにも楽しい所です。
日本を知りたい人にはオススメの場所です。

開館時間は9時30分～17時まで。休館日は月曜日です。
観覧料は大人300円、高校生150円、小中学生無料です。

賀茂真淵が国学の礎を築き、本居宣長が発展させた。馬淵には男女合わせ340名の弟子がいたが、楫取魚彦(かとりなひこ 伊能忠敬の遠縁)、エレキテルの平賀源内（ひらがげんない）、盲目の大学者塙保己一（はなわほきいち）も門弟にいた。
本居の功績の一つに、混乱があった「お」と「を」の混用について、歴史的な源流を探って正したことが挙げられるという。知らなかった！
興味深いのは、一種の正書法が民間主導で進んだ、それも「原点に帰る」成り立ちに従った事だ。元禄の豊かな世にあって自らの言語のあり方を考察していた。「日本とは何か」と考えた基盤が身分も超え形成されていった様でもある。
一方でその成果を馬淵死後に私淑した平田篤胤などが神がかり的に利用し、尊王攘夷や討幕に繋がっていった(更には廃仏毀釈などにも至った)と考える事も出来る。

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 令和二年度の平常展「賀茂真淵と近世国学者の国語研究 阿伊宇延袁（アイウエヲ）」を観ました。今回の展示も非常に興味深かったです。国学者というと歴史や文学についてのことを研究していると思っていたのですが、その他にも国語、つまり日本語についても研究していたのだと知りました。この時代の研究を基に明治以降に日本語の文法や仮名遣いが確立されたのだそうです。
中学や高校の国語や古典の時間に習った「歴史的仮名遣い」や「係り結びの法則」などについての展示があります。

特別展「鴨建角身命から真淵へ」を観ました。記念館の所蔵のものだけでなく真淵の子孫である賀茂家に伝わるものも展示されていてなかなか興味深かったです。これらの展示を見て真淵のお陰で私たちは『万葉集』が読めるようになったとよく理解できました。とてもありがたいことですね。
展示品の中に賀茂真淵の長歌「美酒の歌」という掛け軸がありました。古代語を使い、謡い物として酒興のプロセスを詠んだものだそうですが、真淵先生もお酒はお好きだったのでしょうか？そんなことを想像させるとても興味深い歌です。
賀茂真淵は国学を樹立した人ですが、展示を観ていると、そこには荷田春満から真淵、そして本居宣長へという壮大な師弟のドラマを見る気がします。やはり師弟は大切なようですね。国学に興味のある方は伊勢松阪の本居宣長記念館にも行かれることをお勧めします。

I watched the special exhibition "From Kamo Taketsunomi to Mabuchi". Not only the ones in the memorial hall but also the ones handed down to the Kamo family, a descendant of Mabuchi, were exhibited, which was quite interesting. Looking at these exhibits, I could understand well that thanks to Mabuchi, we were able to read "Manyoshu". I'm very grateful.
In the exhibit, there was a hanging scroll called Kamo no Mabuchi's long song "Bishu no Uta". It is said that he used ancient words to describe the process of sake brewing as a song, but did Mr. Mabuchi also like sake? It's a very interesting song that makes you imagine that.
Kamo no Mabuchi is a person who established Kokugaku, but when I look at the exhibition, I feel that I see a magnificent master and pupil drama from Kada no Azumamaro to Mabuchi to Motoori Norinaga. After all it seems that teachers and pupils are important. Those who are interested in Kokugaku are advised to visit the Motoori Norinaga Memorial Hall in Ise Matsusaka.
