Perfect 1 star kaiseki restaurant, famous for serving rice in different stages of cooking and seasoning. Only a few seats so needs to be booked, high quality ingredients expertly handled. Very fair price

A very enjoyable first kaiseki experience. The restaurant consists of about a dozen seats at the counter. The service and presentation are excellent and I really enjoyed watching the chef work and plate the dishes. I did the 10,000 tasting which was plenty of food. I didn't get the Kobe course or a fish course with caviar that came with the more expensive tasting. You have to decide which tasting you want when you make the reservation. As expected with a tasting, some dishes were amazing and some were just okay. Below are two of my favorites, an aged tuna sashimi and a sesame tofu dish. Overall I would give the food about 4.5 stars with the service a d experience pushing it up to 5. If you're used to Western tasting menus, you'll find this food much lighter. There are no butter/cream heavy sauces, even dessert was light.

Fantastic food - engineered to trigger the best sensations. The level of details is as you would expect for this type of restaurant, but the results are by far superior. Maybe just maybe the best meal of my life. I mean we were served Femal AND Virgin cow and explained why it matters ... not sure if that’s why it was amazing, but it was.

Wowza! Great meal in Kyoto, impeccable food and friendly staff. The restaurant offers a range of set price menu offerings, so it's affordable to a range of budgets. The setting is in a small restaurant just off Nishiki Market. Definitely not a place to just wander in as there are only around 10 seats. Your hotel should be able to help with the booking. All patrons are sat along a bench while Jiki and his staff prepare the food in front of you and tell you about each dish (they do English too). The food was great and probably my favourite meal in Japan. Checkout the pictures! Each dish painstakingly prepared and well considered. Jiki himself was humble and eager to ensure you enjoyed every aspect of the experience. To top it off, Jiki gives you a beautifully printed (in Japanese characters) copy of the night's menu that you might think about framing. That was really the icing on the cake. Definitely highly recommended, you won't be disappointed here.

Second time back at jiki, chef takamoto izumi never disappoints. It was such a joy watching him prepare the dishes, 2 years ago and now his level of dedication in preparing each dish has not falter. Everything was out of the world. Aged sashimi (real umami) and sesame tofu were my favourite dishes! We’ll be back again!

Not recommend lunch course. I have tried several Kaiseki before, this luch course is 6050 per after tax, average taste, not enough food. you can have much better food in other kyoto style restaurant. Perhaps dinner course would be better, but lunch make me disappointed.

Head chef and assistants are very kind and disciplined. Perfect execution to carefully designed dishes made from carefully sourced super high quality ingredients. They take pride here of what they offer. Simple clean and innovative, how? You have to visit. Restaurant is a small counter. Food stands out, like a lot, you can taste the charcoal on shrimps, snapper is perfectly cooked, tuna is aged (chef would explain the aging process and what umami is) rice is prepared to perfection, desert is simply a piece of fruit. I have to indicate that amount the many dishes you would taste, the sesame Tufu is beyond great. Hot tufu is made from sesame, topped up with sesame paste and toasted sesame on top. Like this one is simple, innovative and takes you to another level of your gastronomic journey. Bravo Jiki and all working there and thank you. One more thing, the roasted green tea amend matcha is a plus

What a treat. Chef Takatomo Izumi's menu for our special lunch was unique and timeless in every way. He was attentive, gave us a detailed explanation for every dish he served. Including the meticulous process of aging fish, which we thought was just so cool. Every dish had a flirtatious take on new school methods - yet he kept the integrity of traditional ingredients, letting the ingredients shine. The ingredients married each other wonderfully with balance. It's also not just about the food, but the ceramics he served them on. I ate off an ancient 800 year old bowl, which he served heavenly silky Toro in. The ceramics of this restaurant is a sight itself. After lunch we were served Matcha hand whisked by the Chef himself in beautiful Chawans. The staff were courteous and friendly. We will definitely be back next time in Kyoto for a dinner here!
