★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Absolutely unique district. The preserved canal is so beautiful and attractive. We missed the blossoming period of sakura, otherwise it would be very nice to take a boat ride along the canal. It is place worthy of a second visit. Highly recommended.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I came here during autumn (mid November). There was nothing much here except a shrine, a gate, and canal. You can ride the boat for 1000yen/person if i’m not wrong. There’s nice restaurants nearby but there’s nothing much to do here. I suggest you to come during autumn or spring, when you have extra time to spend.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It's a very well preserved castle village that was built in 1585 as a hub for canal transportation, goods delivery and people commuting to nearby Kyoto. We went there chasing for the sakura. Obviously, it was a bit late for the season. However, we were amazed by the charm of canal, the boat, the people and surrounding architecture. It's definitely worth driving down to enjoy the serenity and history.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful old town. You can take the boat, walk along the canal, go to cool old style cafe. Highly recommended! Go up the ropeway and see 360degree view also very good!!
