Funsenchi is a free public mixed outdoor onsen (konyoku rotenburo) in Gero Onsen along the Hida River. It is open 24 hours daily except cleaning time. The water is clean and the water temperature is good.
Since Feb 2010, one must wear swimsuits or equivalent to enjoy the rotenburo and rub shoulders with the locals. Yes we are surrounded by a bridge on one side and the hotels overlooking the river but why bother? Bring along a large towel to help change into and out of your swimsuits, and just experience the local atmosphere, and ENJOY the free hotspring water. :)
