圓光寺（えんこうじ）は、京都市左京区一乗寺にある臨済宗南禅寺派の寺院。山号は瑞巌山、開山は三要元佶（閑室）、開基（創立者）は徳川家康。当寺では徳川家康の命により、日本における初期の活字本の一つである「伏見版」の印刷事業が行われた。

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful and serene temple. Away from the tourist traps of Kyoto, and is only crowded in the fall when the wonderful fall foliage covers the temple grounds. Climb the top of the hill in the grounds for a spectacular view of Kyoto!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Aesthetically beautiful pond and garden. Not many tourists. Historical place with oldest created pond. Paintings by some masters. Reasonable 500 yen entrance fee. Parking next to entrance. You can get a temple stamp. See otherd posts. Quiet neighborhood too. Spend some time contemplating. Best scene in garden during change of seasons.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The temple itself is an art piece! The temple is not a big one, but it has aesthetic garden and landscape, with the autumn colouring, it looks stunning everywhere. I was so lucky to visit there around sunset, the ambience can’t be more perfect. My favourite visit of my Kyoto Red Leave Trip. ???

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Perfect location to combine a magical temple and grounds with a superb view of Kyoto. I was too late for the autumn colours but it hardly mattered. There was hardly a soul there when I visited so I was able to enjoy the tranquility of a stroll through the bamboo grove behind the temple buildings. Enkoji is something special.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The place where i can enjoy the quietness of nature with beautiful garden and lively fishes on the pond. Definitely recommended to visit during rainy season, the greeneries are just perfect!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Tranquil and beautiful temple grounds with stone garden, water harp (水琴窟) tucked on the hillside with a view over Kyoto from the top. The grounds are not extensive but there is a wide variety of small scenes as you walk upwards through the temple complex.
