神	神戸昴 on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ バス停一乗寺下り松徒歩圏内。詩仙堂と隣り合わせで併せての拝観をお勧めします。八坂神社と御同神をお祀りされている事から北の祇園社とも呼ばれる京の表鬼門に位置するお社で、方除、厄除、縁結び、学問の神様として御利益があるとされています。こちらの境内地である一乗寺下り松において剣聖宮本武蔵公が吉岡一門対決した、決闘の地として有名で、戦いの前に武蔵公が参拝されたゆかりのお社としても知られています。境内には、対決当時の出で立ちを再現した武蔵公の像と決闘当時の下り松の古木が拝観出来ます。御朱印は社務所にて頂けます。 Within walking distance of Ichijoji Sagamatsu bus stop. Miyamoto Musashi is one of Japan’s most iconic and legendary swordsmen, not to mention one of the best. Musashi fought with two swords in the way of the Ni-ten Ichi Ryu, and he was also famous for throwing his swords and sometimes even shuriken. He was the author of The Book of Five Rings, and in his lifetime from the time he was thirteen, fought 60 duels undefeated, not taking into account the men he took down during wars or battles. Musashi adopted three sons and died in his sixties of natural causes, kneeling with his sword in his left hand, a cane in his right.

B	Bryce Aspen on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Stuff of Legends. Great to see the tree bark from 4 generations ago and walk the foot steps of miyamoto musashi. The main area he had the duel is a few blocks down hill.
N	Nick Stevenson (Judge Fudge) on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Most of the guides said that this was the place where miyamoto musashi challenged the head of the prestigious yoshioka fencing school and won, birthing his famous 2 sword style. which is not 100 percent true it is very close to the site and also has a piece of the tree that musashi used to fight around but the original site is about 300m down the road which I found by accident. But to be honest there isn't much here unless you are a fan of musashi. It's pretty out of the way and there are a lot of shrines that I would consider better "bang for your buck" for lack of a better phrase. But if you are a musashi fan, it's a Must see.
