★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Short review: Kadowaki is a good restaurant but the charges are outrageous.
I booked the table from ocket concierge website. At the end of the meal, the restaurant refused to give us the receipt and told us that the receipt would be sent by email. I felt a little bit weird until I figured out why when I received the receipt few hours later.
First, they charge 800 yen for a small cup of tea. I understand that many high end Japanese restaurants charge their tea but none of them charge this high for such a small cup.
Second, they asked if we'd like to wrap up the rice which we couldn't finish. If your answer is yes, they charged another 800 yen without advanced notice. When I argued the charge with Pocket Concierge, they said they had mentioned it before the reservation on the long T&C pages.
To summarize, the food was decent but the extra charges may ruin your whole experience.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is extremely overrated and expensive restaurant for no reason. We went there for my mom’s birthday and it was a disaster.
We were taken to a private room near the entrance. It was very noisy with all the servers talking and even running. Also every time the door was open, the cold air came in. The heater was not effective.
First few courses are good but nothing spectacular and it was very slow. Again, because of the proximity to the entrance, it was loud all along from outside noise.
Finally, when we got to the signature truffle rice, there was a small insect!! We couldn’t believe it! We pointed out and they apologized, but seriously you should have changed it or offered something given we paid 50,000 yen per person!
Finally, when I made a reservation, they asked if I want them to prepare a cake for my mom and I said yes. What we got was an extremely lame strawberry cake from a nearby store and they charged 5,000 yen for this.
I will never go back. This makes me wonder how fair and objective the Michelin people are in Japan. There are so many places that are much better than here and charge half or less.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Amazing. Almost secret in nature. No signage, a bar upstairs (no signage) unassuming and bespoke.
Mr Kadowaki is a genius.
We sat and watched his mastery.
Food was exceptional. Black truffle on everything, honey with white truffle. Abalone. Smokey tea.
Sake was beautiful.
When the meal was complete. Mr Kadowaki escorted us out, the Geisha everyone pleasant and wonderful experience.
A must do if you you visit Japan but costly $1100 AUD for two.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The best dish for me was Crab chawan-mushi! Oh my..... so delicious. The meat was from Omi, Shiga. Also delicious. Excellent balance in taste and volume too. If you go with more than 3 people and then they won’t charge you for the private room.
It’s only course menus here.
