塩竃九名石の一つ、しるべの石です。石面の刻文から、1731年10月吉日、越後屋喜三郎が建てた道標と思われます。次のように刻まれている。 ◆南向きの面東　七曲り水戸南　御たいの橋北　七曲り坂西　御こしかけ石 ◆東向きの面塩竃昆布所越後屋喜三郎 ◆西向きの面享保十六年龍舎辛亥十月穀旦道標を建立時の越後屋はとても繁盛していたらしく、誰かに「塩竃の産品を七つ上げろ」というと、その七品の内の四品は越後屋製の物だったといわれているそうです。その頃、お店の宣伝としてこのような道標を建てることがあったといわれています。当時は単なる店の宣伝だったかもしれませんがいろいろな事が読み取れます。例えば、「七曲り水戸」とは水戸とは大河が海に入り込むところや港を言います。「塩釜の港は塩釜の別宮様が浅瀬を踏み分けられて造られて七つ曲り角のある」といわれています。当時の絵図をみるとこの道しるべ石の近くまで港(川かなぁ)がきていたようです。そこには「御たいの橋」がかかっていました。

At that time, it is said that there was a signpost like this used to advertise the shop. It might have been just a store advertisement at the time, but there are many things you can read. For example, "Seven-curved Mito" is a place or port where a big river enters the sea. It is said that the Shiogama port has seven bends, built by the Bekgu Shrine of Shiogama traversing the shallow water. Looking at the pictures at that time, it seems that a harbor (a river or a river) had come to near this signpost stone. The "Oitaino Bridge" was there.
