森	森昭二 on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 名古屋城西の丸にある樹齢600年といわれている榧（カヤ）の木です。名古屋城が築城されたのが400年ほど前なので、名古屋城築城以前からこの地にあった訳ですね。戦前に撮影された写真を見ると、本当に鬱蒼と茂った巨木という感じです。聞くところによると、家康もこの木の下で名古屋城築城のプランを練ったそうです。榧の木というのは４月頃に花を咲かせるそうですが、この木にも花は咲くのでしょうか？もし咲くのなら、どんな花か一度見てみたいものです。この榧の木は昭和20年５月14日の大空襲で火を被り一時は枯死するかと思われたのですが、その後奇跡的に樹勢を回復し、今日に至っています。北側には焼けた痕跡があるそうですが、今は見ることができません。残念です。しかしいずれにせよ、これからも名古屋城と名古屋の街の発展を末永く見守っていってほしいと思います。 It is a Kaya tree that is said to be 600 years old in the Nishinomaru area of Nagoya Castle.
