Very nice onsen resort in Gero. It is a bit far from the center, on the hills. It takes about 15/20 minutes to get down to the center by walking. The hotel features traditional Japanese rooms with tatami, sleeping on comfortable futons. For a female guests there's many choices in the yukata, while for makes there's only one option. They have two baths segregated by gender, each featuring outside bath. They exchange the two everyday so if you go in the evening and the morning after you'll be able to enjoy both. We had kaiseki ryori for dinner and it was served in a room close to ours. Breakfast is served in a large hall in a new building. The resort also has billiard, table tennis, and karaoke (3000 yen/hour, a huge room).

I will begin by explaining why I couldn't give the hotel a 5-star review, because despite it, our stay was very pleasant there. My wife & I decided to use the hotel's shuttle service from the train station to the hotel. Upon arrival, we were picked up by the kind driver who lead us to the minibus of Yunoshimakan. The bus was crammed with other upcoming hotel guests and their luggage, and we were forced to sit separately, I squeezed in between two mothers with their children on their laps. Needless to say, driving up the hill; the steep and curvy climb was very unpleasant for every guest. Even when we arrived, the reception by the staff felt less ceremonial and more artificial and factorized, as though us guests were on a conveyor belt to be processed into the hotel. Otherwise, our room was perfect, dinner and breakfast were incredible and the staff was friendly and helpful. The hot springs in the hotel are very nice and we had a very relaxing and pleasant stay. It's a shame that the hotel did not prepare better solutions to the shuttle problem when they knew many people were coming at the same hour.

What a beautiful place. Slightly old and rough around the edges, but feels rich with stories. I actually thought it would make a great setting for a Wes Anderson film, if that gives you an idea. Service was perfect, room was lovely traditional Japanese style, with a balcony looking across to Misty forested mountains. I also had the best multi-course kaiseki meal of my life there. If you're looking for swanky, this isn't quite it, but if you're looking for a real authentic experience, you've found it.

Very wonderful experience to stay here in Early April 2019! The room was spacious and comes with private bath with outdoor view. English-speaking staff were available and they are fluent in introducing the dinner dishes served in my room. Ample parking lots though the location was a tad hard to find if one is not well-versed with the signs in Japanese language placed at the roads as guidance. They do provide free shuttle bus from the Gero station. They also do have private public outdoor baths. My first Ryokan experience and definitely going back again. Thank You!

Great soak, mildly alkaline water... But facilities can be termed as "charming." Had an annex tatami room with private onsen and the seating area carpet as well as sliding decorative doors showed stains. It's a very old building that has been kept up relatively well. Service and quality of ingredients in particular is the big plus with the Kaiseki dinner and breakfast. There's a billiards room, bar, and karaoke but no one seemed to use these facilities. The outdoor public bath is nicely landscaped but the views are of mountain tops above some bushes that serve to hide the driveway. Resto, cafe, and bar are only open in the evening... Plan accordingly for lunch and other needs. 15 minute walk up/down a winding hill road to get to the town. Beware of monkeys on the route as I had to steer clear of a couple that were aggressively chasing others. At night, the place can feel a bit like the Shining hotel with the red carpet and long winding halls :)

This onsen ryokan was the highlight of our trip. The room was very spacious and the outdoor bath was just perfect. The dinner was served by a very charming young man. Both the dinner and the breakfast were just melting in your mouth. The building is old, but I think that just adds to the charm. The building covers a huge area and it is easy to get lost in here. I was expecting something much smaller, but luckily we visited during the quiet months.

Lovely place. Peaceful, friendly atmosphere. Amazing food. I loved taking long morning and evening baths in the ofuro of our room. The large window-wall could be opened and it really was like a “rotenburo”. I felt so in peace watching the beautiful Mountain View. The Gero village is lovely, too. Lots of possibilities for hiking nearby. Highly recommended!
