柳生城は柳生氏がまだ豪族だった時代の城ですが詳細は不明です。
城跡は柳生家代々の菩提を供養する芳徳寺と柳生新陰流の正木坂道場とその東の山一帯で遺構として土塁、堀切などがあります。
また芳徳寺には石舟斎塁城跡の石碑があり、境内奥には柳生家歴代当主らの墓所があり柳生新陰流の開祖である柳生宗厳(石舟斎)、初代柳生藩主柳生宗矩、隻眼の剣豪で有名な二代柳生三厳(十兵衛)の墓石がずらりと並んでおります。
ちなみに石舟斎(せっしゅうさい)宗厳は剣術流派の新陰流を極め、独自に「柳生新陰流」を創始。徳川家康の前で剣術を披露したのを機に幕府の大名となりました。

Yagyu Castle Ruins
Yagyu Castle is a castle of the time when Mr. Yagyu was still a powerful family, but the details are unknown.
The ruins of the castle include Hotoku-ji Temple, which is a memorial service for the bodhi of the Yagyu family, Masakizaka Dojo in the Yagyu Shinkage-ryu, and the remains of earthworks and Horikiri in the mountain area to the east.
In addition, there is a stone monument of the ruins of Ishifunesai base castle in Hotokuji, and there is a graveyard of the Yagyu family's successive owners in the back of the precincts. The tombstones of the second generation Yagyu Sangen (Jubei), who is famous for his swordsman, are lined up.
By the way, Munetoshi Ishifunesai mastered the Shinkage-ryu of the swordsmanship school and started his own "Yagyu Shinkage-ryu". He became a daimyo of the shogunate when he performed swordsmanship in front of Ieyasu Tokugawa.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 築上年代は定かではない。 柳生氏は本姓菅原氏で関白藤原頼道が大和国四箇郷を春日神社に寄進した時、菅原永家が小柳生郷の庄官となり子孫が小柳生氏を称したのが始まりとされる。中世柳生氏は筒井順慶や松永久秀に従っていたが後に徳川家康に接し将軍家剣術指南役として取り立てられた。 寛永13年(1636年)一万二千五百石に加増され大名に列し江戸常駐の定府大名となり、柳生陣屋が築かれた。
The age of construction is uncertain. It is said that Yagyu was the real surname Sugawara, and when Kampaku Fujiwara no Yorimichi donated Yamato Kuni Shikago to Kasuga Shrine, the Sugawara clan became the shogun of Koyanagi and his descendants named him Koyanagi. Mr. Yagyu in the Middle Ages followed Junkei Tsutsui and Hisahide Matsunaga, but later came into contact with Ieyasu Tokugawa and was appointed as a general swordsman. In the 13th year of Kanei (1636), it was added to 12,500 stones and became a daimyo resident in Edo, and the Yagyu Jinya was built.
