Tucked deep in the woods in Akita. First time forcing myself to go into aoxed hit spring. The staff were helpful in helping us find our way around and making it simple to access the changing rooms. The price was also affordable and the open air hot spring was hot enough around the edges to relax and milky white water that hides your genetial well. It was raining here so it made for an interesting experience.

Very nice place. However, too popular and crowded with a bunch of people. You can find equivalent quality of hot spring water in other places. Still, worth a visit at least once.

Did not manage to stay here as it was fully booked but went to check it out nonetheless. Beautiful village like onsen/ryokan which has preserved its historical visage. Worth going/staying.

One of the most majestic onsen experience ever... A open-air hot bath with snowfall on top("Yuki mi furo") with a great view... Please do a visit in winter for this special experience...

There are both open air and closed space onsens. The open air has a female only and a mixed area. No men only. The water is blue and opaque. It's not too hot so you can chill longer. 700yen ish with a towel. Overall an amazing experience. Bus schedules are pretty tight and you need to get off at alpa komakusa to take their free shuttle.

Really bad design of the spa spot- there’s the mix gender open air spring, two indoor women-only springs (very small), one women only open air spot- all of them are not connected. Ladies need to put on/ take off their clothes and shoes for each spot. In a rainy days this is very inconvenient. Baskets for clothes is not enough. Basically there’s no amenities inside, you cannot even shower, unless you are stay in guest. During golden week which is hard to book a spot, we just walked in but felt very bad about the experience. It’s definitely not in a good ranking among all hot springs I have been in japan. Don’t understand why it’s so popular.

Although highly rated by other visitors, I have not found this place attractive, apart from its open-air bath or onsen. The room is very simple and basically small, although we had the biggest room. It is old and poorly insulted so it is very cold during the winter and with a lot of bugs during summer. The meal is so-so at this price and the futon needs to be payed out by ourselves. It is also not so clean as you eat and sleep over the same tatami. There is also a distance to the famous open-air bath from your room and you have to go thru dirty and wet entrance with everybody including the tourists passing by. If you are here for the open-air bath, just use the day use plan and you do not need to stay here. Although the price is reasonable, it is not a comfortable stay

A really quaint Onsen where you can stay in old world style rooms. Arranged like a little village. Will definitely try and stay next time. Very picturesque when we went in the snowy season. Lovely all wood architecture. The water may be a tad hit for foreigners but the outside baths are cooler. 4 star because signage is poor and can be confusing as to which bath area to enter etc
