★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 秋田駒ヶ岳の火口原で男岳、女岳、小岳に挟まれた谷のことです。登山地図やガイドブックには「馬場ノ小路」と記載されています。6月中旬から7月中旬にはヒナザクラ、チングルマ、イワカガミなどが咲き、特にチングルマの大規模群落は谷間を白く染めるほど見事です。正しい由来は知りませんが、この火口原のチングルマの大規模群落はかつては地元の登山者など一部の人たちの知る人ぞ知る場所で、いつしか「ムーミン谷」と呼ばれるようになったようです。広大なお花畑と火口跡の駒池、荒々しくそびえ立つ男岳の岩峰の眺めとが醸し出す雰囲気は、この世の風景とは思えないまるで別世界のようだから「ムーミン谷」と呼ばれるようになったのでしょうか。
7月上旬に八合目登山口からシャクナゲコースで横岳に登り、ムーミン谷を経由して男岳分岐から片倉岳コースで下山すると、焼森山斜面のタカネスミレ、大焼砂のコマクサ、ムーミン谷のチングルマ、男岳分岐までの登りでシラネアオイが大体花の見頃になります。タカネスミレやコマクサもムーミン谷のチングルマに劣らぬ大群落です。

In the beginning of July, climb the Yokodake from the 8th station mountain climbing course to the Rhododendron course and descend the Odake branch via the Moomin valley to the Katakuradake course. By climbing up to Mt. Takanesire and Dicentra are also large communities that are not inferior to Ching Luma in the Moomin Valley.
