★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 曹洞宗「萬松山 泉岳寺（ばんしょうざん せんがくじ）」は、1612（慶長17）年に「徳川家康」（1543／天文11年～1616／元和2年）が、駿河の戦国大名「今川義元（いまがわよしもと）」（1519／永正10年～1560／永禄3年）の孫「門庵宗関（もんなんそうかん）」（1546／天文15年～1621／元和7年）を招いて、現在の警視庁周辺「外桜田」の創立した寺院だという。しかし、1641（寛永18）年に焼失し、時の将軍「徳川家光」（1604／慶長9年～1651／慶安4年）の命を受けた「毛利（もうり）」「浅野（あさの）」「朽木（くつき）」「丹羽（にわ）」「水谷（みずのや）」の五大名によって、現在地「高輪」での復興をはたしたという。現在の「中門」は、1836（天保7）年に再建され、1932（昭和7）年に大修理がなされているというが、現地に「元来、泉岳寺には三門といって三つの門（総門・中門・山門）がありましたが、現在は中門と山門のみが残っています」と案内される。なお、「萬松山」額は中国「明」（1368～1644）から「清」（1644～1912）の時代の禅僧「爲霖道霈（いりんどうはい）」（1605／順治7年～1702／康熙41年）の書によるという。

現在の中門は天保7年1836年に再建されたもので、昭和7年に修理をされました。
「萬松山」の額は、中国明時代の禅僧、為霖動霈(いりんどうはい)による書だそうです。
こじんまりしていますが、関東大震災や第二次世界大戦の空襲にも耐えたのかと思うと貴重です。
中門をくぐると忠臣蔵関係のお土産屋さんが何軒か並びます。
