昔は山上にありましたが、雷で社が焼けて100年以上前に現在の場所に降りてきたそうです。明治の頃から地域の守り神として大切に祀られています。明治の初め、この辺り一帯でコレラが発生しましたが、この神社の氏子の人たちは誰も病気にかからなかったという言い伝えがあります。ちなみに、100年以上前にあった場所は慈光寺と長興寺のあたりまで続いていた赤坂道海蔵の途中にあったそうです。結構山の上だったことがわかりました。
祭神は豊玉彦命（とよたまひこ）で海を守る神様です。別名は大綿津見神（わたつみのかみ）で、日本神話に登場する神です。
イザナギとイザナミによる神産みの、家宅六神の次に生まれた「海の神」ですが、海を司る神は多い中、その最初に生まれた海神が大綿津見神です。

The god of worship is the god who protects the sea with Hikotoyotama. Another name is Watatsumi no Kami, a god that appears in Japanese mythology.
The "god of the sea" was born after the six gods of the house, which was born by Izanagi and Izanami, but while there are many gods who control the sea, the first sea god born is Watatsumi God.
