山門のそばに鎌倉十井があるといえば浄智寺が有名ですが、海蔵寺は駅から離れているため、浄智寺ほどの参拝者はいません。
北条時頼の外戚、安達泰盛の娘である千代能（ちよのう）の詠に由来する底脱ノ井。
千代能は「千代能がいただく桶の底抜けて 水もたまらねば」と詠いました。
夕餉の水を汲みに来ると桶の底が抜けてしまって、この時に心の煩悩が解け、悟りの境地に至ったとのこと。
近くには、鎌倉十井には含まれていませんが、負けず劣らず風情のある「十六の井」もあります。
