I happened to find the monument without any prior knowledge. It is surprising that such a history exists in the hot spring town.

直江兼続が白布の地で火縄銃を製造したことを伝えるための記念碑。慶長6年（1601）に上杉景勝に従い米沢入りを果たした兼続は、慶長9年（1604）に白布高湯に鍛冶工場をつくり、近畿から鉄砲職人を呼んで火縄銃を作らせた。
なお、建碑者は石碑背面に記されており、宮坂善助氏である。彼は米沢駅前の宮坂考古館の初代館長であり、宮坂考古館では彼のコレクションであった米沢藩の文化財（甲冑や火縄銃など）を展示している。こちらも、ぜひ訪れることを勧めます。

A monument to tell that Kanetsugu Naoe made a matchlock gun on white cloth. Kanetsugu, who entered Yonezawa following Kagekatsu Uesugi in 1601 (Keicho 6), built a blacksmith factory in Shirafu Takayu in 1604 and invited a gunman from Kinki to make a matchlock gun.
The owner of the monument is written on the back of the stone monument, and is Mr. Zensuke Miyasaka. He was the first director of the Miyasaka Kokokan in front of Yonezawa Station, and at the Miyasaka Kokokan, the cultural assets of the Yonezawa Domain (armor, matchlocks, etc.) that were his collection are exhibited. We also recommend visiting this place.
