「山梨県立吉田高等学校の前身である山梨県立嶽麓農工学校および山梨県嶽麓
高等女学校（のちに県立）は、それぞれ昭和十三年四月と昭和十七年四月に、
この地にあった山梨県瑞穂実業学校の一部を使用して開校した。
嶽麓農工学校は一年後には現在地（吉田高等学校敷地）に移転したが、嶽麓
高等女学校は瑞穂実業学校廃止後も引き続きその施設を用いてきた。
その後、この地には学制改革による山梨県立岳麓高等学校が置かれ、さらに
高校再編成による山梨県立吉田高等学校となってからは、西校舎として、普通
科・被服科（のちに家庭科）定時制課程中心校が置かれるなど、昭和二十七
年十二月まで富士北麓における中等教育の中枢の地であった。
昭和十二年十月二十日の嶽麓農工学校設立認可以来、六十の歳月を経た今
日、ここを「吉田高等学校開校之地」とし、永く後世に伝えるものである。
