★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great spot to enjoy the view of the mountains of Gifu. Very quiet and peaceful except for the occasional noisy tourists that pass by.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We have walked all the way from Magome to Nagiso. Really good and easy path to follow. Signs are in place throughout the path, and even few free WiFi hotspots with 50Mbps Internet.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A step back in time at Magome. It is a bit more touristy than Tsumago. We enjoyed a vista view of the nearby alps from the lookout.
The soba restaurant next to the bullentine board was cosy and delicious.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This was a fun town built in a hillside leading to the hike between Magome and Tsumago. The shops and atmosphere of the place was nice. I liked how the service of the shops were great and prepared me well for the hike which was super enjoyable.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Everything pretty much closes down during the winter season. We went at the end of January and, barring the local post office and a few shops, everything was closed. But the lack of people makes for great photo ops, especially when it snows! The old bulletin board is along an old road between two old sight-seeing villages. It's around 7km from one village to the other. We didn't get to the other village since locals discouraged us from doing the hike in the snow. Very nice and quaint area, with lots of good photo opportunities.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Magome is a post town in Kiso Valley
We walked from Kiso Fukushima to Magome through the Nakasendo trail. ( takes 4-5 hours)
A convenient access to the town is from Nagoya station. From Nagoya station you should go to Nakatsugawa by train and then to Magome by bus.( don’t forget to check the bus schedule)
The town itself is so beautiful full of seasonal flowers and many waterwheels.
The main street is lined with wooden Edo style buildings.
Plenty of shops selling local products and souvenirs but many of them do not accept credit cards. Also number of ATMs is limited and there is a no super market in the town. ( the closest one is 5 min by car)
There are some roofed rest areas in the main street with free wifi.
You can buy the Nakasendo trail walk certificate from tourist information in Magome and receive the stamp at Tsumago.
