You can try on shibori kimono in a quick and simple way for FREE. Shibori class in English is available(reservation recommended); silk scarf: 3,000yen, approx 60-min. Museum shop: variety of original shibori items, scarves, bags, fabrics and souvenirs are sold at the reasonable price. Museum for all textile lovers on this planet.

There is nothing I have heard of in terms of textiles that is more involved or complicated. The classes are great, the staff is great and many speak English. The owner/ main proprietor makes the peices in these pictures and they are absolutely phenomenal.

We went with teenagers so the guide dressed them up in Furisodes after our tour of the museum and allowed us to take pictures inside the museum. Great memories for the girls! The guide speaks relatively good English and they have explanatory videos about shibori in many languages! Really worth a visit if you are in the area! Also the gift shop downstairs has many offerdable souvenirs made in the museum!
J	Joseph Hoh on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Incredible showcase of really fine work. I enjoyed the exhibition of different kimono and fabric. The workshop was of particular interest to me. Be prepared to spend a lot of money on shibori silk at the end. I wish I did.

I already had high expectations because I thought it would be really cool and fun, and I knew it would be hands on (we did the workshop). However, my expectations were exceeded. The staff were incredible and really made this experience very special. They were patient, and you could really see their love of this craft shine through. The staff are all experienced in Shibori, and they enjoy sharing their knowledge with others. We anticipated spending about 2 hours here, but stayed for 3, and we loved every minute of it! The scarves we made came out absolutely beautiful as well!
