1997年(平成9年)4月1日 指定 京都市 Guide plate: Kyoto City designated tangible cultural property United Church of Christ in Japan Kyoto Gokomachi Church Hall Our association originated from the Kyoto Lecture Center in the Kobe Parish of the American South Methodist Church, which was established in 1898 (Meiji 31). In 1941 (Showa 16), the Protestant factions jointly established the United Church of Christ in Japan, and in 1942 it became the Kyoto Gokomachi Church. The current church is a one-story brick building built in 1913 (Taisho 2), and is almost rectangular except for the pulpit on the back. The exterior is based on the Gothic style, with the windows at the top and buttresses at key points on the sides. Inside, the entrance is located at the western end, and the upper part is the mezzanine floor, which divides the staircase to the north. The chapel in the back is a large room, showing the king post truss without a ceiling, and setting up a pulpit in the back. In addition, there are three glass-filled lattice doors installed on the border with the meeting room in the southern building, which is a lifting door that is pulled into the upper wall. This inter-column device was designed for integrated use with the meeting room, and there are few other examples. This church is an early church work of W.M.Voriz who was active from the end of the Meiji era to the beginning of the Showa era. It is valuable as one of the few brick church buildings that remain in Kyoto city. Designated on April 1, 1997 (Heisei 9) Kyoto City
