★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very historic onsen, the black wooded houses reminds you a another era, the onsens are very soothing, the mixed gender rotenburo is a bit small though, and currently the overall view of the whole Kuroyu area is negatively impacted by ongoing instructions on the river dam

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ First of all, the employees are very nice and friendly. I stayed at a private onsen room and it was fantastic!! Hot springs are clean and nice. Our family really enjoyed it and you won’t regret staying here. Definitely coming back!!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A wonderful onsen experience from a bygone era. At least one of the baths is konyoku - I.e mixed gender, no swimsuit. That’s the way things were before the Meiji revolution imposed Victorian Era morality on Japan. This place is beautiful, rustic, and - with advance notice - vegetarian friendly. Staff was great. Overall wonderful experience.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A good onsen. Nice water, loved the waterfall massage. Both separate and mixed bath options. Water is milky in color. The forest path to the other nearby onsen is nice. Some nice hiking in the area. Staff is super friendly and small rest area is quite nice. They sell a small selection of drinks, souvenirs and snacks. Would go again.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very traditional onsen hotel. Good place for chilling out and experience original decoration of hot spring. Surprisingly senior staff can speak good English which is good for people who are not able to speak Japanese. Dinner and breakfast both provide great various options. Maples have a tendency to turn red in the end of Oct and would be the best season to visit.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is one of the best Authentic Japanese Hot springs. When you take outdoor bathrooms, you can enjoy dynamic atmosphere. And you are satisfied with their dinner which includes a lot of local specialities.
