T	Tim Cheung on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Excellent for skiers who want the convenience of quick access to the slopes while enjoying a traditional Japanese guest-home experience (with in-house onsen!) A family-run establishment, Kiriya has much to offer - have recently returned for a second visit for some late winter skiing. We took a family sized room that was very comfortable for 2 adults and 2 children. Key highlights of Kiriya: * shoes off at the entrance! They provide slippers... * have a drying room for all the ski gear * breakfast is at 8am - you choose either a (standard) Western or an (interesting) Japanese set * hallways can get a tad chilly, but rooms are toasty warm * sleeping was on the floor in what I assume is a traditional style * Onsen is on the second floor with segregated male/female areas * dinner is an optional extra - I would recommend you try it once - it's a fancy Japanese set meal with lots of small dishes. (for the other days, wander to main street for a good selection of local and foreign foods) * The "face" of Kiriya is Ko, who speaks English and can provide good guidance on where to go, what to do. Kiriya is a long-time establishment in the village, so the locals know where it is if you ever get lost... there are definitely less expensive places in Nozawa if you are on a budget, but for a full experience, I would recommend Kiriya.
M	Max Raju on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fantastic ryokan with amazing hosts, clean spacious rooms and beautiful breakfasts. The place is well maintained and has an old character with nice onsens. The rooms aren't particularly sound proof so if you like making a lot of noise I wouldn't go there. Great for families.
T	Tania Watts on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ After contracting influenza on our trip we ended up at Kiriya Ryokan quite unwell (especially our toddler), Ko did an amazing job to accommodate us! She organised breakfast in our room (so as to no infect everyone in the dining room) and made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. She organised doctors appointments and doted over our 2 young children. She was an amazing host and I highly recommend staying at Kiriya Ryokan! Oh and it is also very close to the Yu Road moving walkway as well as just a couple of minutes walk to the main street.

A cultural hotel with the people there are so polite and nice, the Onsen (hot spring) there is really relaxing, and they even own a cat that loves to play hide and seek with you! Kiriya Ryokan is really near a Skiing Park, just a short 5-10 minutes walk, very convenient. And the town it is in has lots of little japanese supermarkets with the best soft serve ice-creams in different flavors!!! The location is a very pleasant, quiet, with lots of trees and Onsens. This is literally the best place for a family trip to Japan!
G	Gardner Treneman on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Wonderful stay at this ryokan! We'd been traveling around Japan for a week and had reservations made for us to stay here, and get in some skiing. The staff were very polite, the food was super tasty, the onsen was just the right temperature, and they have a house cat! The room was traditional bamboo mat flooring, separate toilet room, sink room and bathing room. That one was pretty closed off from the heat, so it got cold, but we were bathing in the onsen fashion anyway, so we didn't use it. Beds are futons which were laid out and put up for us. We loved the family who own and run the ryokan, always willing to help and offer suggestions for timing of trips and such. Would gladly stay again.
