★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The pork cutlets are delicious and they should be for the price. Unfortunately I found the rice was a bit bland and hard, the cabbage so overdressed with lemon juice that it was very sour and the miso wasn't up to par either.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The tonkatsu here is really good! It tastes relatively light despite being fried. I also do like that you can get unlimited soup, rice, and most importantly, cabbage because it is relatively difficult to get your hands on fresh foods in Japan.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Quality pork for reasonable price. The pork was tender and well cooked! We ordered their mangalica pork and sangen pork and their seasonal oysters (I found the breaded crust too thick and oily), which were very delicious. Sauces were provided and they taught us how to make each sauce and the use of each sauce for each pork. We loved every detail of each side dish, such as the fresh lettuce, mashed potato and miso soup! Great ambience here although i have yet to visit the one at Kyoto station. Highly recommended!
Went at 6.30pm on a Thursday night and we got in immediately. 7.15pm onwards and there was a queue.

Welcoming, friendly and English speaking staff, very good space with traditional Japanese style. The food is very good, the sauce is great (you get to grind the sesame seeds which are the base for mixing with the homemade sauce). I went with some friends and tried all of the main sets and everything was really tasty. We also tried the superior quality Sangen pork (special Japanese breed), which is remarkably better (and pricier) than the normal pork (which is imported). And the egg with cheese and bacon - it's awesome!!
Overall, I can't say I loved it, because it's not my favourite kind of food, but I believe it is one of the best spots for Tonkatsu food.
Highly recommend it!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Katsu is delicious, English menu, free refill of miso rice and pickles.
The miso soup was very good, you get to grind your sesame and prepare your own sauce with a set of different sauces at the table.
There are different meal sets with prawns and size cuts. The fried egg is recommended as well.
We didn't reserve a table for both times we were there and had to wait a couple of minutes to be sitted there is a nice waiting area inside

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Dinner at Katsukara (Shijo Higashinotoin). One of the most tender katsudon I’ve ever tried! Juicy, chunky and very crispy. Service was really good as well. Overall a good dining experience for my family!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very good tonkatsu in a traditional setting. Very busy during lunch so plan accordingly. You can get free helpings of rice, cabbage and miso soup. The frozen cream pancake sandwiches are pretty tasty too.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Organized,clean, and with great English service, I would be more than happy to return. The table I sat at, had a beautiful flower arrangement at its center. The food didn’t taste greasy at all but light and filling. I love the process where we crush the sesame to put into our sauce.
