★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 梅小路公園の市電広場から公衆トイレを過ぎていのちの森方面に行った所に「西八条第跡」の説明書きがあります。
平清盛の邸宅である西八条第は、八条亭とも呼ばれ、平安京左京一坊の八条大路（現在の八条通）以北、大宮大路（現在の大宮通）以西に位置します。６町以上を占めていましたが、広大な邸が存在していたのではなく、町単位で殿舎が独立していたようです。
現在地でいうと西八条第は、梅小路公園とＪＲ東海道線と山陰線の線路敷地にあたり、往時をしのぶものは何もありません。

Taira no Kiyomori's residence, Nishi-Hachijo-dai, is also called Hachijo-tei and is located north of Hachijo-dori (currently Hachijo-dori) and west of Omiya-dori (currently Omiya-dori) in Heiankyo Sakyoichibo. It occupied more than 6 towns, but it seems that the palace was independent in each town, not a vast mansion.
At the present location, Nishihachijo No. is the track site of Umekoji Park, JR Tokaido Line and San-in Line, and there is nothing to surpass the past.
